If you would like to customize the speed dial / line presence keys on your telephone, you need to log into the 3CX web client. If you don't have the link or credentials, reach out to Pinnacle at 260-205-8900 or [email protected] and ask us to send you a 3CX "Welcome Email".
Once you get logged in, you will see something like the following:
The first 4-6 keys on each phone are typically hardcoded and won't change no matter what you put there (and should be set to Line). These are usually 2 "line" keys for you to switch between calls, followed by 2-4 "park" keys. Everything else is fair game. Annoyingly, these changes will not show up without a reboot of your telephone. This can be accomplished by physically unplugging it and replugging it in, or pressing and holding the OK button (Yealink phones only) to factory reset it. Both of these options may disrupt network connections to your computer and/or other devices that are get their network connectivity through the "PC" port on the phone.
Here are the different types of keys you can use:
Blank - Does what you would expect: nothing
BLF (Busy Lamp Field) - These keys let you see "presence" for internal extensions, so you can see when somebody is on the phone. You can also one-touch transfer somebody directly to voicemail this way, or pick up a phone call ringing on somebody else's extension, if you have it so configured.
Speed Dial - No real use case for this
Custom Speed Dial - Like a BLF key, except can be used for non-extensions (like voicemail or paging), custom s or external numbers (e.g. spouse cell), and does not show "presence"
Agent Login/Logout - These are only used in call queues - if you don't know what this is, don't use it
Change Status - Lets you toggle your status between various "Out Of Office" messages, based on your status
Note: On a Yealink T48S touchscreen phone, buttons 1-6 go down the left column, then 7-11 go down the right column (followed by a built-in "More" key to expand the middle of the screen), then 12-17, 18-23, and 24-29 are the columns in the middle.
Sidecars
Some phone models allow for sidecar(s) where you can see the presence of a large number of extra extensions. These don't show up separately in the BLF list, they simply are the positions AFTER the ones on the main phone. In the case of a Yealink T48S (which is what is most commonly used with the sidecars), the sidecar buttons start at position 30.
