In iOS 17, Apple is allowing spammers (among others) to create calendar invites automatically. This issue is specific to Apple Mail; Outlook and Google don't have this problem.
Example:
- Do not click on any links or other sections of the spam appointment
- If you are able to, click Decline on the appointment (delete the appointment/event from the calendar if you accepted)
- Check to see if you need to unsubscribe from the calendar to prevent future spam events from being added
- In the Calendar app, select "Calendars" at the bottom
- If you see an unfamiliar calendar select the red "i" next to it
- In this menu, scroll to the bottom and select "Delete Calendar"
- If that doesn't work and you're still receiving calendar invites
- Open Settings
- Search for Calendar -> select "Calendar"
- Select Calendar Accounts
- See if there's any Calendar accounts that look unfamiliar
- If there are click on it to open
- Then select "Remove Account"
