In iOS 17, Apple is allowing spammers (among others) to create calendar invites automatically. This issue is specific to Apple Mail; Outlook and Google don't have this problem.

Example:

  1. Do not click on any links or other sections of the spam appointment
  2. If you are able to, click Decline on the appointment (delete the appointment/event from the calendar if you accepted)
  3. Check to see if you need to unsubscribe from the calendar to prevent future spam events from being added
    1. In the Calendar app, select "Calendars" at the bottom
    2. If you see an unfamiliar calendar select the red "i" next to it
    3. In this menu, scroll to the bottom and select "Delete Calendar"
  4. If that doesn't work and you're still receiving calendar invites
    1. Open Settings
    2. Search for Calendar -> select "Calendar"
    3. Select Calendar Accounts
    4. See if there's any Calendar accounts that look unfamiliar
    5. If there are click on it to open
    6. Then select "Remove Account"
