If you received an email from Apple about this, you might be wondering why Pinnacle is hijacking control of your Apple account. (if you didn't receive an email, see this support article from Apple: https://support.apple.com/102159)
There are 4 primary reasons:
- Synchronize Apple IDs with the Microsoft/Google directories we already have in place so that, for example, names are consistent, email addresses are consistent, and titles/roles/groups/permissions are consistent.
- Streamline user accounts/passwords so that one user account & password applies to local computers, to Google accounts, to Microsoft accounts, and to Apple accounts.
- Pinnacle can have the accounts set up before users start employment. and get automatically disabled when users leave employment, which streamlines the work, eases setup, and improves security.
- Make sure that the organization maintains control of apps/media purchased by the organization as users come/go.
FAQs:
Q: Can I just ignore this email from Apple, or do I need to transfer my account to company management?
A: Yes, you may ignore the email if you don't feel that you need to keep anything that's in the account, and Apple will simply change the email to something temporary in case you ever need to go back and retrieve it. However, it would be our recommendation that you actively choose to do one of these options:
- Delete the account if you no longer need it - see https://support.apple.com/en-us/102559
- Transfer to company management as recommended
- Change your Apple ID email address to something personal that you control (e.g. [email protected])
Q: Does this give Pinnacle access to my personal computer or phone if I'm logged in there with my work account?
A: No - this change is about your Apple ID / iCloud account, NOT about your computer. Only data that's already tied to the account with a company email address is affected. Of course, if Pinnacle also manages your computer, this question is moot.
