When using Chrome you might use different profiles when trying to access different resources, but you may not know that the Chrome Profile and Google Account that you're using are two separate things.  See the steps below on how you can tell the difference between the two and how you can add different accounts inside of the managed profile.

Table of Contents

Difference Between "Chrome Profiles" and "Google Accounts"

  1. When you open Chrome you might see a screen similar to the image below, which will usually display at least one profile to choose from.
  2. As you can see there is an option to add additional profiles which would have you sign into your Google Account to sync your browser's Chrome Profile to.
  3. Once you've logged in through this screen your browser will now be using your Chrome Profile to sync any browser data (bookmarks, passwords, etc) and Google websites will use your profile to quickly sign you in.
  4. In contrast to the Chrome Profile you can see your Google Accounts by navigating to any Google website (such as Google.com) and clicking on your profile icon in the top right of the webpage (not in the browser!)
  5. As you can see in the above image, there is an additional Google Account I'm able to access that wasn't there when logging into my Chrome Profile.
  6. We are only disallowing you to use your personal Chrome Profile, but we are not disallowing you from using your personal Google Accounts for resources (such as Drive, GMail, etc.) while using a managed Chrome Profile.
  7. To access any other Google Account while signed into your managed Chrome Profile please see the steps below.

Accessing other Google Accounts on a managed Chrome Profile

  1. Since you will be accessing Google Accounts and not Chrome Profiles you will need to first navigate to any Google site such as gmail.com.
  2. On the Google site click the profile icon on the web page (not in the browser menu!)
  3. This will open a Google Accounts menu (maybe even showing accounts you've used previously!)
  4. In that menu click "Add another account"
  5. You will be brought to a normal Google login screen, go ahead and log in as normal.
  6. Once logged in Chrome will prompt you with "Continue in a new Chrome profile?", since we are only wanting to add a Google Account and not a Chrome Profile, click "No thanks"
  7. Once you've done that you will now be logged into another Google Account until you decide to switch to a different one!
  8. Please note that adding these accounts will not allow you to access any browser data that might be synced to those accounts. That is because we are only accessing the Google Account and not the Chrome Profile!

Switching to a Google Account you've already added

  1. Navigate to any Google site such as gmail.com.
  2. Click the profile icon again in the web page (not in the browser!)

  3. You will see all of the Google Accounts you've signed into while using your managed Chrome Profile. By default the account that is used for your Chrome Profile will always be in this list.
  4. You can access different resources such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc. by simply navigating to this Google Account menu and selecting which account you would like to view that resource as.
Note: Typically when you select a different account, a new tab will open which will be the same resources (in this case Gmail) but logged in as the account you seelcted.
