When setting up a pair of airMAX Nanobeam devices to wirelessly extend your network to a new location, one device will be the "Access Point" which is plugged into the main network and one will be the "Station" which ties the remote location to the main network with a wireless link. It is important to install the correct device in each location.


Pinnacle will provide you several pieces of information to allow you to complete this process:

  • Identification of which device will be the "Access Point" and which will be the "Station" based on MAC address.
  • An IP address configuration for each device.
  • The SSID for the wireless communication between the devices.
  • A password for management access.
  1. Install the UNMS App on your mobile device.
  2. Configure the "Access Point" device:
    1. Plug in the device identified as the "Access Point" and confirm that it has power (lights should come on).
    2. If you haven't already, hold down the 'reset' button for 10 seconds to reset the device to factory defaults.
    3. Connect your mobile device to the wireless network named "NBE-5AC-Gen2:" followed by the MAC address of the "Access Point" device.
    4. Launch the UNMS app.
    5. Tap the Nanobeam listed in the Connections screen.
    6. Tap Connect on the Login screen.
    7. Check "I agree to the Terms of Use" and click Continue.
    8. Tap "Create Access Point"
    9. Select your country and tap Continue.
    10. Tap "About Passwords".
    11. Record the Admin password (or just tap "Copy/Backup" and email the whole section to support@pintechfw.com).
    12. Tap Device Detail.
    13. Tap the wrench icon in the upper right to Edit.
    14. Set the Wireless Mode to "Access Point PtP."
    15. Set the SSID to the one provided by Pinnacle.
    16. Tap Security.
      1. Set the Security to "WPA2-AES."
      2. Set the WPA Authentication to "PSK."
    17. Tap Network and set the configuration as follows
      1. Network Mode: Bridge.
      2. Management IP Address: Static.
      3. IP Address, Netmask, Gateway IP, and  Primary DNS: these will be provided by Pinnacle.
      4. Secondary DNS IP: 8.8.4.4.
    18. Tap System
      1. Tap Change Password for the 'ubnt' user and set it to the password provided by Pinnacle (current password is the one retrieved in step 2.11).
    19. Tap Apply.
  3. Configure the "Station" device:
    1. Plug in the device identified as the "Station" and confirm that it has power (lights should come on).
    2. If you haven't already, hold down the 'reset' button for 10 seconds to reset the device to factory defaults.
    3. Connect your mobile device to the wireless network named "NBE-5AC-Gen2:" followed by the MAC address of the "Station" device.
    4. Launch the UNMS app.
    5. Tap the Nanobeam listed in the Connections screen.
    6. Tap Connect on the Login screen.
    7. Check "I agree to the Terms of Use" and click Continue.
    8. Tap Manual Setup.
    9. Tap the wrench icon in the upper right to Edit.
    10. Set the Wireless Mode to "Station PtP."
    11. Set the SSID to the one provided by Pinnacle.
    12. Scroll to Wireless Security:
      1. Set the Security to "WPA2-AES."
      2. Set the WPA Authentication to "PSK."
      3. Set the WPA Preshared Key to the one provided by Pinnacle.
    13. Tap Network and set the configuration as follows
      1. Network Mode: Bridge.
      2. Management IP Settings: Static.
      3. IP Address, Netmask, Gateway IP, and  Primary DNS: these will be provided by Pinnacle.
      4. Secondary DNS IP: 8.8.4.4.
    14. Tap System
      1. Tap Change Password for the 'ubnt' user and set it to the password provided by Pinnacle (current password is 'ubnt').
    15. Tap Apply.
    16. Unplug the "Station" device from the network (leave connected to a power adapter if possible).
    17. Close the UNMS app.
  4. Notify Pinnacle that the devices are configured so that we can any remaining setup before the devices are installed in their permanent locations.

Note: The "NBE-5AC-Gen2:....." network is only available for the first 15 minutes after the device is powered on. If you try to come back to the configuration and can no longer see the network, unplug and replug the device from power to make the configuration network visible again.
